Mr. Hooker brought us 12 eggs today. Our incubator was ready, the dry temperature was 99 degrees and the humidity was 86 degrees. We have 1 white egg, 7 brown eggs, 3 beige eggs and 1 green egg. Today was a very exciting day for the 1st graders in our room. 21 days and counting.

We talked about the importance of keeping the incubator at a consistant temperature. We also talked about wet temperature (humidity) and dry temperature.

Today we learned about the purpose of the incubator and how it pretends to be the hen!

Today we looked at eggs, up close and personal. We used an overhead for candeling the eggs. The only egg we could see through was the white egg. We could see the yolk and the air sac! We are excited to see if the white egg is fertilized or not!

Today we candled the eggs and took another look inside. We could really see the air sac and the blood vessels running through the eggs. SO COOL! Now we really know that our eggs (or at least that one!) are fertilized!

We looked at the brown speckled egg. We could see the chicken on the inside. It was a black mass and it was moving around. We could still see blood vessels. We noticed that with each passing day, it is getting harder to see inside because the chick is taking up most of the room. We were also surprised by the size of the air sac.

When we took the picture you couldn't see the chicken, but it really was in there!
